REACH Media Internship Program

Thank you for considering an internship with REACH Media.  We are now accepting intern applications for the 2014 Spring semester.  If you would like to be considered for the 2014 Spring semester, please submit your application as soon as possible to the Reach Media offices for immediate consideration.

Internship Program Information

REACH Media offers internships at its national headquarters in Dallas, TX.  The internship program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to learn about radio broadcasting and supporting the areas of REACH Media corporate operations. 

Eligibility:  A candidate must be a graduate student or an undergraduate student currently enrolled in a four-year accredited college or university or a Junior or Senior in High School.

General Information:  Interns are expected to work between 20 and 40 hours a week during an 8-to-10 week internship period.  Internships are offered during the Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters.  Interns will receive academic credit with an agreement between the REACH Media Human Resources Department and the intern's college or university. All interns are subject to the applicable REACH Media employee rules.  Students will be responsible living expenses including housing, transportation and meals.

Application Procedures:  Candidates must complete an application form and submit it along with a cover letter and resume.  Some internship positions require additional application items, such as writing samples or portfolios. All application items must be submitted as a complete package.  Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Internship Opportunities
Following is a list of internship positions available at REACH Media. The exact internships offered vary from semester to semester. On the application form, applicants should indicate all internships they are interested in.


Tom Joyner Morning Show: Assist the Programming, Production, and Radio Operations departments with various research, creative writing, production and/or administrative & clerical tasks.  Required Skills: Writing, research, communication and administrative experience in a fast-paced environment.  Preferred: experience in music-related field, for example: music degree or music studio, radio DJ, or radio/audio production experience.

Business Affairs:  The Business Affairs department provides legal assistance to all of the corporate divisions of REACH Media. The department handles a wide variety of legal issues, including: communications, copyright, trademark, tax, employment, and labor law, as well as contracts in all areas.  Intern will work on clearance projects which involves contacting participants from contests, sending out release forms and following up with the returned forms. 

Required Skills:  Strong legal research and writing skills.  Must also be detail-oriented and posses strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Major:  First year law school preferred.

Interactive Media:  The Interactive department supports the business operations of REACH Media Online and the BlackAmericaWeb.com website.  Intern will provide assistance with a number of tasks including graphic and web projects in conjunction with Creative Services staff; actively participate in creative and production process, organize and maintain print and electronic files for the group; monitor BlackAmericaWeb.com user-generated message boards and assist in day-to-day administrative tasks.

Unique Opportunity - Online Content Within the Interactive department, students who possess exceptional writing skills will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience assisting the Interactive Content Manager with Online original & news related content for www.BlackAmericaWeb.com website. 

Required Skills:  Experience with using both Mac and PC platforms. Demonstrated writing, communications, and organizational skills.

Major:  Graphics or Publication Design and/or Creative Writing major preferred.

Marketing The Marketing department is responsible for promoting Reach Media’s initiatives to the public through planned events and public relations.

Events: Intern will assist the events area in planning, execution and publicity of events to include research; scheduling; communicating with various vendors & contest winners; and providing general assistance with various administrative tasks.

Required Skills:  Excellent organization, communication and research skills.  Proficient in both Internet & Microsoft software applications.  Previous event planning experience is a plus. 

Major:  Communications or Marketing major preferred.

Marketing/Public and Media Relations:  An intern in the Marketing and Communications department will learn the ins and outs of pitching national/local print and broadcast journalists, plan and publicize events featuring TJMS hosts and personalities, and support team members in managing the reputation of REACH Media and its subsidiaries.  Intern will gain valuable experience by assisting in the promotion of REACH Media programs, personalities, breaking news and corporate issues to reporters, community groups, industry influencers and affiliate stations. The intern will actively participate in researching media contacts, compiling media kits, maintaining news clips and other files and in writing bios, news releases and responses to interview requests. 

Required Skills:  Strong creative writing and interpersonal skills.  Proficient in both Internet & Microsoft software applications.  

Major:  Communications, Public Relations or Marketing major preferred.

Ad Sales: Intern will provide general support to Ad Sales/Sponsorship department. Intern will assist with updating, assembling, and sending out promotional and effectiveness materials to sponsorship representatives and sponsors; and will monitor affiliates online for compliance with REACH Media sponsorship announcements and schedules. 

Required Skills:  Ability to perform tasks accurately under deadlines, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and organizational skills.  Proficient with Internet & Microsoft software applications (knowledge of PowerPoint a plus).

Major:  Communications or Marketing major preferred.

Affiliate Relations:  Assists affiliate relations department in the planning and development of activities and materials designed to increase awareness of REACH Media programming among the widest possible audience and strengthen the image of REACH Media and its affiliate stations as leaders in the media industry and their markets.  The intern will support the department in its work to strengthen station relations by communicating information to affiliates using created materials for use in efforts to raise awareness, promoting listening, and increase revenue to affiliate stations; and responding to affiliate requests for assistance and materials.
 

Required Skills:  Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.  Organization, detail-oriented and interpersonal skills required.   Proficient in both Internet & Microsoft software applications.  

Major:  Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations major preferred.

Operations/Administration:  Assist Senior Vice President, Operations/Chief Administrative Officer with tasks related to the management functions of the company in the areas of Operations, Information Technology, Human Resources and Corporate Administration.  This will include various daily, weekly and monthly tasks and may also include assisting with the preparation of the annual operating and capital budget process, benefit renewals and enrollments, developing forms, policies and procedures, board meeting report preparation, lease and vendor evaluations and negotiations and routine administrative needs.  This internship may from time-to-time include special projects assigned by the CEO and/or President of the company.

Required Skills:  Highly organized; strong written, verbal communication & technical skills and ability to multi-task.  Must be detail-oriented, able to work will Senior and Executive Management and maintain a high level of confidentiality.  Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and the Internet. 

Major:  Business Administration or Information Technology major preferred.

Finance:  The Finance department assumes the responsibility for the financial analysis, planning and compliance of the company.  The intern will assist in all areas including Sarbanes-Oxley testing; balance sheet reconciliations; preparing financial statements and general ledger; fixed asset reporting; accounts payable; and various administrative tasks. Intern will occasionally be privy to sensitive financial information. 

Required Skills: Strong organizational, detail-oriented, analytical, problem-solving skills. Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.  Must be proficient in Microsoft office applications with heavy emphasis in Excel.

Major:  Accounting or Finance major preferred.
